5 Things I wish I HAD KNOWN before
Investing in Cryptocurrencies

What are the biggest lessons new cryptocurrency investors often learn too late?

Many new investors focus on finding the “next big coin,” but experience often teaches different lessons. Understanding how the market works, managing expectations, staying patient, and learning from mistakes can have a much bigger impact than trying to make the perfect investment from day one. Building knowledge early can help you avoid common pitfalls and invest with greater confidence.

Cryptocurrency investing is a rapidly growing market, but it’s important to approach it with a well-thought-out strategy. Many investors make the mistake of jumping into the market without fully understanding the risks and rewards.

In this post, we’ll go over four key principles to help you make more informed decisions when investing in cryptocurrency.

1. Planning is Essential

True value investing takes a cool head, patience, and planning. Knowing when to enter and exit the market is essential to mitigating your risk.

Pursuing an objective with a calm, considered plan can move you from the 90% of hope investors into the 10% of people that put themselves in the best position to succeed. Having a plan is crucial, and if you don’t have one, there are resources available to help you develop one.

2. Market Cycles

Understanding market cycles is crucial to making the best financial decisions possible. The market goes through periods of growth (bull market) and decline (bear market).

It’s important to be able to identify when a market has gone full Bear, and when a Bull market might be about to run out of steam. By educating yourself on market cycles, you can make more informed decisions about when to enter or exit the market.

3. Liquidity is King

Liquidity is the flow of money back and forth, the order books, and the depth of buyers and sellers. Investing in smaller coins with lower liquidity can be risky, as it may not be possible to sell your position when you want to.

It’s important to have multiple “off-ramps” ready to go where you can sell your cryptos directly back into fiat. This means signing up and testing these out (which takes time) – using insured exchanges is highly recommended.

4. Hype can Sucker You In

It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of the market, but it’s essential to avoid it. Many investors make the mistake of jumping into the market, without fully understanding the risks. It’s important to do your own research and not base your decisions solely on what others are saying. Be cautious of investing in small-cap coins and focus on the top 10 coins that have the most liquidity.

In conclusion, investing in cryptocurrency can be a great opportunity, but it’s important to approach it with a well-thought-out strategy. By understanding market cycles, focusing on liquidity, and avoiding hype, you can make more informed decisions and put yourself in a better position to succeed.

Remember, planning is essential and there are resources available to help you develop a strategy.

5. No need to go all-in

The biggest lesson I learned very early on was that creating long-term wealth isn’t contingent on making that one ballsy, all-in-play, on the contrary, the best investments are planned and executed with the long game in mind.

Going all-in carries obvious risk with a very small margin for error – it also takes away your options to pivot with market conditions. We all know how quickly things can change, especially in crypto.

A good investor buys and sells at pre-determined points to mitigate market volatility and gain exposure to an asset. This also helps avoid that emotional urge to check day-to-day price swings on your phone. Live your life people!

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s easy to get excited when you hear success stories, but many people realize later that they started investing before they fully understood how the market works. Spending a little time learning first can make the whole experience less stressful and help you make decisions with more confidence.

Every investor makes mistakes at some point. The difference is whether you learn from them. Looking back at what worked, what didn’t, and why can help you make better decisions the next time an opportunity comes along.

It’s natural to hope for quick results, but most experienced investors will tell you that learning the market takes time. Instead of expecting overnight success, focus on building your knowledge and understanding how different cryptocurrencies and market conditions work.

Everyone starts from a different place. Some people have more experience, different goals, or a higher tolerance for risk. Comparing your progress to someone else’s can lead to rushed decisions instead of helping you focus on what’s right for you.

One of the most common pieces of advice is to stay curious and keep learning. Markets change, technology evolves, and there’s always something new to understand. The more you learn over time, the more comfortable you’ll become making your own decisions instead of relying on hype or opinions from others.
